A newsletter on German football culture, sent every Friday morning.
My name is Tom, I’m a freelance journalist based in Berlin.
As a recent convert to fußball, I’ve become engrossed in the eccentricities of fan culture in Germany. This newsletter and supporting podcast looks at the hyper-local quirks of individual fanbases, the people that define their club’s identity and the communities that support the grassroots game in this football-obsessed nation.
There will be historical retrospectives, originally reported features, away day travelogues and interviews with other keen observers of the game.
Each newsletter is footnoted with ‘Wörterbuch-Ecke’ (Dictionary Corner), defining and explaining the idioms uttered in pubs, stadiums and TV studios across Germany.
